2009 Middle Rio Grande Habitat Restoration Project

The Middle Rio Grande Riverine Habitat Restoration Project Phase IIa will implement and evaluate specific restoration techniques designed to improve the river ecosystem function and provide greater diversity in aquatic habitat for the endangered Rio Grande silvery Minnow. Restoration work will take place on islands and sandbars within subreaches of the river in the Albuquerque reach from October through December 2009. About 75-100 acres will be treated using low-impact amphibious excavators. Funding is provided by the New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission and the Middle Rio Grande Endangered Species Act Collaborative Program.
