
Signed by New Mexico and Texas in 1948 and approved by Congress the following year, the Pecos River Compact provides for a commission to administer its provisions. New Mexico’s Pecos River Commissioner is appointed by the Governor to serve for a term of two years.
On a daily basis, water issues and events impact the lives of thousands of citizens of the State of New Mexico. Not only does the state have a naturally limited water supply, but continues to struggle with drought and the requirements of interstate water delivery obligations.
