Water Well data from W.A.T.E.R.S. converted into a GIS database (ESRI
Shapefile) are now available for download. Metatadata are included
within the compressed zipfile (9.5MB) that uncompressed will expand to
over 380MB. Please note these data have NOT been validated or checked
for spatial accuracy.
A declared groundwater basin is an area of the state proclaimed by the State
Engineer to be underlain by a groundwater source having reasonably ascertainable
boundaries. By such proclamation the State Engineer assumes jurisdiction over
the appropriation and use of groundwater from the source. This dataset is to be
used as a guide for where the actual boundaries exist. Please refer to the
"Rules and Regulations Governing Drilling of Wells and Appropriation and Use of
Ground Water in New Mexico" for boundary location.
The Española Basin Technical Advisory Group (EBTAG) is composed of
geoscientists and hydrologists who are active in conducting research
within the Española geologic basin in north-central New Mexico. The
group serves as a clearinghouse of information on research within
the basin.
This data is provided through the New Mexico Office of the State
Engineer in order that a common database may be made available to
the EBTAG user group and others.
